Non-linear MHD simulations of Edge Localised Modes (ELMs)
Non-linear MHD simulations of ELMs show features in qualitative agreement with experimental observations like the formation and speed of filaments, features in the radial profiles and the fine structure observed in the power deposition profiles at the divertor target. The density perturbation predominantly follows the ballooning mode convection cells leading to density filaments. The temperatur...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Two Simple Microwave Bursts
We present simultaneous microwave and X-ray data for two microwave bursts with simple impulsive time prooles. The 17 GHz images show compact sources, and in the one case for which we have simultaneous soft and hard X{ray images, they also show compact sources coincident with the radio source. One of the bursts is barely detected in soft X{rays, yet has a moderate 17 GHz ux.
متن کاملGpu-based Data Processing for 2d Microwave Imaging on Mast
The Synthetic Aperture Microwave Imaging (SAMI) diagnostic is a Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) diagnostic based at Culham Centre for Fusion Energy. The acceleration of the SAMI diagnostic data processing code by a graphics processing unit (GPU) is presented, demonstrating acceleration of up to 60x compared to the original Interactive Data Language (IDL) data processing code. SAMI will now be...
متن کاملComprehensive modeling of ELMs and their effect on plasma-facing surfaces during normal tokamak operation
During the normal operation of the high confinement regime (H-mode) in next generation tokamaks, edge-localized modes (ELMs) are a serious concern for divertor plasma-facing components. The periodic relaxation of edge pressure gradient results in pulses of energy and particles transported across the Separatrix to the scrape-off-layer (SOL) and eventually to the divertor surface. ELMs could, the...
متن کاملThe global build-up to intrinsic ELM bursts and comparison with pellet triggered ELMs seen in JET
We focus on JET plasmas in which ELMs are triggered by pellets in the presence of ELMs which occur naturally. We perform direct time domain analysis of signals from fast radial field coils and toroidal full flux azimuthal loops. These toroidally integrating signals provide simultaneous high time resolution measurements of global plasma dynamics and its coupling to the control system. We examine...
